Biography Biography- Roger Eddy Roger Eddy has been Superintendent at Hutsonville CUSD # 1 for the last 16 years and is completing his 9th year as State Representative of the 109th District in east-central Illinois. He has been a coach, teacher, principal and now Superintendent in Illinois for the past 30 years. His committee assignments in the Illinois House include: Elementary & Secondary Education, Labor, Bio-Technology, Health Care Disparities and he is the Minority Spokesman on the Elementary and Secondary Education Appropriations Committee. He also served on and played a leading role in the House Impeachment Committee that resulted in the removal of former Governor Rod Blagojevich from office. During his time in the General Assembly, he sponsored legislation that placed powdered forms of pseudophedrine products behind retail sales counters and required an I.D. and limited purchases of such products. This law has been credited with a huge decline in meth lab activity in Illinois. He is considered one of the key education experts in the General Assembly and has worked hard for fair and equitable education funding for downstate schools. He was the chairman of the Higher Education Dual Credit Quality Task Force which resulted in the 2009 Dual Credit Quality Act. He has been a member of the Pension Task Force, School Mandates Task Force and the task fore on streamlining educational delivery in Illinois. In addition he has sponsored several key pieces of legislation which have been helpful in supporting ethanol and alternative fuels in Illinois. His efforts in education and agriculture have resulted in numerous awards during his four terms in the House of Representatives. He is a co-sponsor of Conceal and Carry legislation and his strong support of Second Amendment rights has earned him the consistent endorsement of the State and National Rifle Associations. He is also endorsed by Illinois Right to Life and is a strong advocate for the unborn. In addition, he has earned the Friend of Agriculture award numerous times and the State Camber of Commerce Champion of Free Enterprise Award. He is strongly endorsed by both management and labor and is considered one of the main authors of SB7, the new education reform Bill that is being hailed Nation-wide as the most important education reform legislation in decades. He has served on many economic development committees and is an executive Board Member and co-founder of the United Way of Crawford County, and Crawford County Leadership. He serves on numerous statewide education advisory boards for Education Funding Reform and Early Childhood Education including the Erikson Institute’s Early Childhood Advisory Board and National St. Louis University’s Funding Reform Commission. He earned his Masters in Educational Administration from Eastern Illinois University in 1986 and his Specialist Degree in 1996 also from Eastern to go along with his undergraduate degree in education from Northern Illinois University. Roger and his wife, Becca, (who is an early childhood teacher) have five children: Matt (29), Lisa (26), Brenda (23), Beth (20) and Jessica (18). He is also the very proud GRANDPARENT of two grandchildren, Bella age 3 and Presley who is 8 months old! Roger and Becca have been married for over 30 years and reside with their two youngest children in rural Hutsonville. |
